Without seeing the violin or knowing anything about …

Comment posted What is the estimated value of a 1694 Giulio Antonio Paulucci violin? by Rachel_S165.

Without seeing the violin or knowing anything about what kind of condition its in, it would be absolutely impossible for anyone here to hazard a guess as to your violin’s value.

Unless you yourself are an experienced violinist (and I’m guessing you’re not), you have no clue whether its really in “good condition” or not. Just because it looks OK to your untrained eye — nothing *obviously* broken or cracked or missing — doesn’t necessarily mean its in good condition. Quite frankly, the fact that it was stored in your *basement* for a long time (basements = DAMP, musty, unventilated, moldy), has me worried about the structural condition of your violin.

Even a violin expert wouldn’t be able to say with any certainty what it might be worth without seeing it and examining it in person.

If you really want to find out what its worth, get off the computer, go take the violin to a reputable violin dealer and have it appraised. You might have to pay $50 or $100 for a professional appraisal, but if you have a valuable instrument, it will be money well spent.
